I'll state up front that I never OC outside of work; it's just not how I roll.

This afternoon I was at a local sporting goods place while nephew-sitting; we had a honey-do list to work on, AND this place was on the way, SO...

3 y/o nephew and I perused the aisles for about 30 minutes, and eventually made our way to the firearms section.  I was wearing a pretty heavy Carhartt jacket over a short sweatshirt with an undershirt.  My Glock 30 was sitting happily in it's thumbreak belt-slide holster on my right side.  I wasn't wearing anything else on my belt, much less any official-looking badges or cuffs.

We picked out two boxes of ammo and made our way across the store towards the checkout lane.  I was getting REALLY hot in that jacket, so I took it off and threw it in the cart.  F-it, I thought, these guys are always going on about OC, I might as well try it.

We got to the registers and lo and behold, in front of us in line was a local PD sergeant.  I didn't recognize him, nor his name (nametag).

He turned, and as cops are wont to do when someone walks up behind them, gave me a quick eyeball.  His eye lingered on Glockster, then he met my eyes and made a "Pfft!" sound.

I looked at him and asked "What's up?"

His reply was short and sweet to a first-time OC'er:

"Pffft.  Tactical tupperware."

He said it with a grin, then turned, completed his purchase, and walked out.

The cashier, a middle-aged guy, glanced down at my Glock, didn't say anything, and rang me up.

Like I said in the title, this was my first, and probably last OC experience, but it was nicely positive.

Im glad it was uneventful for you. I'm not so sure of what to make of his comment. It sounds to me like he is not a big glock fan moreso than a flippant comment about openly carrying.

I'd lean more towards the "not a Glock fan" side, especially since when he turned, he appeared to be carrying some sort of Sig, and, as I forgot (read: didn't see the relevance) to add in the OP, he was buying an HK logo hat.

Yup, tupperware is the term for Glocks by the "so-called" elite.  Mostly because it's mainly a plastic gun.  Had nothing to do with it being openly carried.

And he was buying a hat touting HK.  Overpriced, but still perfectly adequate Wink

Ha  Yea a plastic gun that you can freeze, chip out of the ice and fire 5 mags with no malfunction. I would like to see a Sig do that. Not to mention being alternately dunked between buckets of mud and sand then firing 5 full mags with no malfunction.

Well, I have other issues with Glocks, but one of them sure isn't the reliability and the fact that it's plastic.  Good thing it wasn't me there.  I might have gotten myself in trouble with a comeback such as "Yup, I'm more concerned with reliability, not looks."  or "Yup, my life is worth buying tupperware." or "Jealous?". Or some such.

Not sure if a Sig could, though it probably couldn't, but his precious H&K certainly can't: http://www.theprepared.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=90&Item

Roger that. HK's are very reliable but they are damned picky about being completely clean all the time. I couldn't own one because of thier pickyness, I like mine to function when I want them too and not when they feel like it.

Tupperware derogatory term used for all plastic pistols. Have to admit that it is one I used until I bought an XD a couple of years ago. Change is hard for us old folks growing up with steel guns plastic just seems wrong. That said my XD is the best carry gun I have ever had.

I wasn't sure I wanted a glock but after getting one and firing it ( the shop told me I could bring it back) and my first shot was in the center area of the target, I decided to keep it. Now if only I can get the rest of my shots to be like that.

My G-19 is a great gun and I go no where with out it.

Roger that. My G22 and me are inseparable unless I am at work but even then it is fairly close by.
