Anyone have any personal opinions/experiences? I am looking at getting a 12GA. 18.5" bbl. I haven't made up my mind on a manufacture yet but I think I am leaning towards a Remington or lower end Benelli. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have only shot a Rem. 870 express and a mossberg 500 and did not really care for the mossberg, it was pretty sloppy and was only a year and a half old.

I picked up a Remington 870 Express, 12ga with the 18.5" barrel last year about this time at Sportco in Fife, it ran about $230 IIRC. Add another $70 for the Speedfeed pistol grip stock and foregrip, and the sidesaddle, and you've got a nice budget gun.
Now, if Surefire fore grips weren't so much...
I love the gun, it's uber-versatile, there's a HUGE afermarket for it, and, at least for me, the safety is more instinctive than the Mossie's top safety. Easy to strip and clean, and easy to smith yourself, my choice is the 870.

That setup sounds pretty decent and it would be well within my budget.

I got my remmy 870 from a gun show a loooong time ago. It was a Washington State Patrol used one and even stamped on the barrel. Think I paid $25 for it because I bought it with my Beretta 92. I really like it, and as was mentioned the aftermarket for this gun is HUGE!

OK So I am leaning towards the 870 now. I did a little digging on the net and talked to my brother a little more about his and feel that this is probably the one for me.

Hey Joe. If you ever want to get together at a place that allows shotgun shooting, I'd be happy to bring mine and let you fire off some rounds to see how you like it. It's not fancy, just your plain jane stock Remmy 870.

That actually would be awesome Greg. I could use a chance to play with one before I decide for sure. I don't off the top of my head know of any, except Arlington, that allow non-members to shoot them.

I believe Sams will allow shotgun shooting for non-members. It's only high-powered rifles that require membership.

Bullseye in Tacoma, indoors, but buck or slugs only.

Ok, now I'm curious. What is there besides buckshot and slugs? Sandbags? Sorry, I meant you CAN use shotguns at the Bullseye Range, but you're limited to firing buckshot or slugs, no birdshot, dragon's breath, flechettes, beanbags, drag-stabilized plastic baton rounds, etc.

Honestly, if and when I finally buy a shotgun, it will be the Benelli M3 Super 90. I just love the fact that it can switch from semi-auto to pump-action with the flick of a switch, so-to-say.
I just wish it didn't cost $800-1200

When I get another shotgun, I'm thinking one of the CZ coach guns.
