I'm currently shopping for a good OWB holster, primarily for comfort, and I'm really looking forward to not having to worry about concealing it. I have two Milt Sparks VM2's right now that work great for my 1911 and G19, but I have yet to open carry with them because I'm not quite sure I'm as 'prepared' as I should be for LE, managers, etc. My question is, did it take you guys some time to get up the courage and mindset to OC?

I don't OC very often but when I do I have a Galco COP three slot that I use. It is very comfortable and solid.

I am selective about OC now, mainly with my wife and kids. I usually do not with them, as I don't want the hassle in some situations. By myself I am better at it, in fact the other day I had a guy ask, is that a real gun, to which I replied of course it is, and kept on my business.

good luck

I had always CC'ed.  I began to OC around the house after a friend of mine had a home invasion robbery.  This was also about the same time that my kids were getting to the age where I wanted them to see a gun on my hip and not think it was a big deal.  This moved to working around the yard and getting the mail.

When Lonnie contacted me about a comment I had made in the Wikipedia discussion page on OC, that was all it took.  I gradually went from routinely carrying everywhere to routinely carrying everywhere that I could.  I don't force it on anyone and there are also times that I will conceal to prevent an incident where I know I won't have the time or ability to deal with it.

I pretty much dove right in.  I was nervous at first, but it passed quickly.  LEO encounters take some getting used to but here they usually aren't dumb enough to arrest you.  You get better with each one.

Hopefully the LEO's department gets better with each one as well or completely quits stopping you altogether.

I have always wanted to open carry since I saw someone do it as a child. To answer your question it took a little while to build up courage to do so, Once I had decided I was going to. But now that I have for the past few months I open carry almost everywhere I go, with no LEO encounters at all, matter of fact I open carried into Whatcom county sherrif's office today to ask about no shooting zones and the secretaries and deputies who answered my questions didn't even bat an eye at my sidearm.
