Due to recent e-mails that I have received from the AG's office there is a definite need to attack the municipalities from the legislative side. The AG's office has come right out and said that they are not empowered to take action against municipalities or port authorities for failure to comply with state law. I would like to get a group of people together to start campaigning to their representatives and senators to try and attack the local authorities from the place they are scoffing at. Most of the local authorities are aware of the pre-emption statute and abide by it, for the most part, but some are basically laughing in the faces of our law makers because they know there is no one to hole them accountable except for a lawsuit.

Getting the lawmakers to realize that they are being ridiculed and mocked because of the lack of accountability is the first step. The lawmakers created the pre-emption statute for a purpose and that purpose was to have uniform firearm laws across the state to protect law abiding citizens from a tangled mess of laws. The local authorities around here seem to think that 3 court decisions have given them the power to go around the laws by creating "rules" and saying that they are exercising their rights as private property owners. They are completely mistaken and are interpreting the court rulings They are not private property owners at all because everything the city has is paid for by the tax payers and is therefore public property.

Now I do not anticipate any of the lawmakers to make any attempts to rectify this issue until well after the elections are over and they get a feel of how and what bills might be passable. If a bill is not passable at the state level then a referendum to the voters may be the only other way.

I am going to start keeping the main page at nwcdl.org updated and if anyone contacts their reps or sen.'s about this or any other issues I would like it if a copy of all correspondence with them could be forwarded to legislation (at) nwcdl.org so we can keep a compilation of what has been done and said.
