Open Carry RULES!

« on: October 08, 2007, 03:38:57 PM »

Well, after all these months, I finally had someone approach and stop me.  It was as I was walking back from the mailbox.  A neighbor was walking by and I said "Hi".  She responded, then came closer and asked if I was a "detective".  I replied that I was not, I was just your ordinary citizen.  She asked why I carried a firearm, and I replied "For several reasons.  First, because I feel it's my duty to protect my family since the Police can not do so.  Second because I can't carry a cop (that got a chuckle out of her.)"  She then said "I suppose you don't need a permit because it's not concealed"(!) And I answered that she was correct, no permit required for open carrying a firearm (I sure was impressed that she came to that conclusion!).  Then then said that she just wanted to check to see if I was a detective or security or something because she always saw me carrying and said "Have a good day".

That was about it.  Quite positive in my opinion.  I know I could have done a MUCH better job.  I guess that will come with practice.  It was my first "encounter".

Hey!  Like the tagline Smiley

I did notice that using that line did seem to ease the situation a little for both of us.  Got a good chuckle and things seemed to have been more relaxed.  Well, as well as the fact that it is completely true!

Yup, it's not only 'physically' true, but also succinctly and plainly makes the point that LE can't always be there and can't "prevent" most crime, only investigate and make arrests after the fact.
