Open Carry RULES!

WWW
« on: November 05, 2007, 02:29:11 PM »

Ok, I've been meaning to post something on this but have been sooooo busy here at work I haven't hardly had time to even log on...

So, here's the situation.  Some of you may be familiar with Rudy's statement that Everyone should be allowed to carry guns, even the blind...  (I think he just said it to get some outrage and further the gun control lobby of which he is a member, but that's beside the point...)

So, is he right?  Should the blind be able to carry a firearm?

The 2nd Amendment of COUSA, states that "the right of the people...shall not be infringed".  It does not say everyone *except* the blind.  So in keeping with our strong belief in the 2A, doesn't that mean that we should support the right of ANYONE to carry a firearm?

Should someone be stripped of their basic human right to defend themselves because of a physical disability?

I agree 100% but I think SCOTUS would uphold a law that prevents blind people from carrying firearms.

I see nothing wrong with the blind carrying firearms.  Grin Chances of being accidentally shot by a blind person would seem quite remote.

Blind people hunt (with a sighted guide).  Blind people golf, play catch, and get attacked.  If you walk around a corner and someone drops their coat over you and starts wailing away will you call time out until you can see them?

I guess I'm saying: I'm for it.  Smiley
Training would be nice, as it would be for all of us.

I agree, but I would say that training should be required for the blind, due to their special circumstances. They will need to be able to handle a firearm much more proficiently than someone that has all of their senses intact to be safe in doing so.

I don't disagree with that view.  I'm really uneasy about changing it from a right ot a privilege however.  Having any requirement(s) makes it a privilege since it can be taken away or denied if you don't meet the requirement.
